Have you ever heard of the
magical land named Torre de San Miguel? If you have, you must be one of my
magical friends. If you haven't, sit back, get comfortable, and hear my story!
I've lived at Torre ever since I came to America in 2004. I was a third grader
at the time, and now I am a senior in high school. This is where I spent my
childhood. this is where I grew up both physically and mentally. This is where
my heart is.
When I first became part of this community I was one of the young youths. I joined the many programs that are offered. CommonBond has a program for each and every person who lives here; from Pre-K classes, Homework Center, Learning Circles, Teen Club, all the way to Citizenship and English classes for adults. Where else can you find these wonderful programs that each and every person can use.
Starting at a young age, I was always pleased by all the assistance CommonBond offered. This was something that I definitely wanted to be a part of and therefore, I started lending my hand to others. I see all the youth at Torre as brothers and sisters. I want the to succeed in life as much as I want that for myself. Since I have known almost all of them since they were very young, I felt I could make an impact in their lives.
I have made my community a better place in many ways, from being a good role model to the kids, to allowing them to come over to my house so that I can assist them with homework on weekends. Talking about education is a passion of mine. I appreciate it when adults and friends tell me about their experiences and give me tips on being a better student. It motivates me and I hope I motivate other kids.
Although I've made a difference in the community, the community itself has done far more for me. I hope someday to feel accomplished at giving back to this community that is dear to my heart.
