Individual Services
One-on-one counseling is offered to support residents' success. Staff are professionals who can explore options and provide information to link residents to community agencies that provide additional services.
Computer Access
Advantage Center computer labs provide beginning and intermediate computer skills, such as accessing the Internet, e-mailing and desktop publishing. Residents are also encouraged to use the labs for job preparation, education assistance and personal enrichment.
Career Advantage
Career Advantage is a comprehensive employment and professional development program that helps work-age adult residents find and keeps jobs, develop career paths and achieve goals. Available through many Advantage Centers, Career Advantage provides:
- partnerships with employers and links to quality jobs
- work readiness counseling
- work readiness seminars
- short-term training
- job clubs
- on-going support
Homework Centers
A drop in center where CommonBond staff and volunteer tutors work as a team to assist resident youth with homework assignments, special projects and playing games with the goal of strengthening academic skills.
Study Buddies
A one-on-one academic mentoring program where resident youth are paired with well-screened and trained volunteers for the purpose of academic and personal support.
Other Programming
Beyond these core programs, others are developed in response to resident needs and interest and the availability of community resources. Examples of additional programs that have been offered within Advantage Centers include: English as a Second Language classes, tutoring in preparation for citizenship exams, home ownership education, Home Buyers Clubs, parenting classes and support, GED instruction, youth employment programs, summer youth recreation, community events and celebrations and crime watch efforts.
